In many island and remote areas, the lack of access to a stable power supply makes it difficult to support electric boat operations, as extending the traditional power grid is costly and often unfeasible. Even in places with existing infrastructure, weak grid capacity limits the ability to install high-power charging systems, while fluctuating electricity prices—especially during peak hours—further drive up operating costs. These challenges make fast, reliable, and sustainable charging a persistent obstacle for the electrification of water transportation.
To solve this, ExploMar developed the 5S Energy Station—an off-grid, fully renewable energy solution that integrates solar power and energy storage, delivering continuous, clean, and efficient charging for docks and electric boats.
The “5S” represents a comprehensive approach to sustainable energy:
This innovative system combines photovoltaic technology, energy storage, and fast-charging stations to provide independent charging solutions for electric boats, making it ideal for existing docks, islands, and remote waterways.
Equipped with a powerful 300 kW solar system, it can generate up to 1500 kWh of photovoltaic energy daily. This robust energy output enables fast charging for electric boats, meeting diverse operational needs. In a single day, the system can fully charge up to 25 boats equipped with WAVE 70+ electric outboard motors and SI-60 batteries, or 6 boats with WAVE 300 electric outboard motors and HEDB 240 semi solid batteries.
By integrating solar power with battery storage, the system enables fully off-grid, self-sufficient operations without reliance on external electricity. This not only solves dockside power shortages but also helps commercial operators avoid fuel supply challenges and the risks associated with fluctuating electricity prices. Early deployment further secures a competitive advantage by capturing scarce dock resources ahead of the market.
The system is specifically designed for large-capacity fast charging and perfectly matches the battery systems equipped with the ExploMar outboard motor, providing efficient energy replenishment for vessels using the ExploMar system, allowing operators to run their boats without concerns over energy supply challenges.
Packaged in a 20-foot container with multiple layers of protection and a clean, streamlined appearance for easy transportation, it can be quickly deployed at the dock. At the same time, modularity can be increased depending on the number of electric boats equipped with ExploMar in operation.
As electrification reshapes the maritime industry, the 5S Energy Station offers both commercial and environmental advantages. It opens up new business opportunities such as eco-tourism, green certifications, and access to environmental funding, while significantly reducing costs associated with diesel fuel and onboard generators. In regions where policy allows, surplus energy can even be sold back to the grid, further enhancing revenue potential. By leveraging limited dock resources, the 5S Energy Station shifts the traditional model of equipment sales and after-sales service toward a sustainable, long-term energy distribution business built on renewable power.
The solution is built to withstand harsh marine environments, featuring a CX corrosion resistance rating and an IP55 cooling system to ensure long-term reliability and durability under oceanic conditions.
ExploMar’s 5S Energy Station is the ideal choice for maritime electrification, offering a grid-independent, cost-effective, and future-proof charging solution tailored for commercial users—leveraging China’s leading renewable technologies to transform scarce dock space into long-term revenue opportunities through efficient energy distribution and sustainable operations.
